One of my favourite things about marketing online is that you can get clear numerical feedback on the results of your efforts – and ultimately, the numbers don’t lie! The challenge is in understanding what the numbers mean, what’s realistic and what’s important in helping you navigate the ever-changing landscape of the Internet.
Over time, if you are tracking your numbers, you can make informed decisions and understand what’s working and not working.
Here’s what I’ve found most entrepreneurs are looking at when it comes to the most common #s they are watching and using to guide them in their online content marketing campaigns and decisions:
1. SELL MORE
2. INCREASE BRAND AWARENESS + VISIBILITY
3. GROW LIST
4. GET MORE ENGAGEMENT (OPEN RATES/CLICK-THRUS/FANS/FOLLOWS)
5. RESEARCH AND FEEDBACK (surveys, ratings, consumer needs, etc.)
Like sport, once you have a goal you can work with the end in mind – you can figure out what milestones have to be achieved and how you know you’re getting closer to your goal. An online content marketing strategy is like a road map on a race course where there is a clear start and finish.
But like any sport in which you need to put in some training miles before you run your race, you also need a solid foundation when it comes to your online systems, structure and overall strategy!
